Pella Cycling Club Meeting Minutes
June 12, 2008

  1. The meeting was held in Room 201of the Pella Community Center at 7:00 p.m.
  2. Gary Verhoef welcomed everyone and introductions were made.
  3. Mike Warin gave a demonstration on changing/repairing a flat tire.
  4. Gary and Corinne Verhoef handed out the RAGBRAI packets.
  5. Corinne gave an update on RAGBRAI
    • Dates: July 19-July 26
    • Support crew Kevin and Marla Renaud
    • Housing:
      • July 19 - Missouri Valley - Still need a place - Let Corinne know if you have a suggestion.
      • July 20 - Harlan - Country Club
      • July 21 - Jefferson - Still need a place - Let Corinne know if you have a suggestion.
      • July 22 - Ames - Downtown at 1st Christian Church
      • July 23 - Tama - Have secured a location
      • July 24 - North Liberty - In contact with someone - Still finalizing
      • July 25 - Tipton - At a campground in the country - Nice location - We might grill supper there that night, or a shuttle may be provided
      • July 26 - Le Claire - checking into a parking lot (may be 3 miles from the activities)
    • We start the week with 39 riders and end the week with 50. We have 35 week-long riders.
  6. Gary gave us packing/loading/departure details.
    • Friday, July 18, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
      • Team members who need their bikes transported to Missouri Valley, bring them to Gary and Corinne Verhoef residence (1542 W. 4th St). They will be loaded on the blue support bus.
    • Saturday, July 19, 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.
      • Load your gear on the motor coach at the Central College Fieldhouse parking lot (on W 5th St., between Independence and Peace St.). Gear includes tent, lawn chair, duffle bags, pillows, helmets, etc. Departure time is 9:15 a.m. We're planning one rest area stop and a lunch stop around noon. Target time to arrive at our host home in Missouri Valley is 2:30 p.m.
  7. Tour de Rock - Tim Carlo can still use volunteers. Give him a call at 641-780-3592.
  8. Upcoming rides
    • BRAMCO - Saturday, June 14
    • Chariton Classic - Saturday, June 21
    • Tuesday Show'n Go Rides are at 6:00 p.m., meeting at the Volksweg Trailhead
  9. Tulip Time Challenge - be thinking about possible ideas for our club to have a presence in the Tulip Time Parade next year. Bring your ideas to the executive committee.
  10. June bike safety check at Howell Station will be canceled due to the flooding.
